Admissions

Families who are interested in visiting Cornerstone School are welcome to phone the school and book a tour and short information session, at any time throughout the school year.

Our annual intake of new students for the upcoming school year (which begins in September), is always scheduled for the end of January.  Each family is given a 45 minute session where they tour the school, and the child spends a bit of time with one of our teachers in charge of admissions.  The child goes through a short assessment for us to gain some understanding of their academic ability in both Language Arts and Math.

Final decisions on our enrolment intake for the upcoming September are made by the second week of February, and all families who applied for registration, will be contacted by the Head of Admissions.

Kindergarten Admissions Process:

  • Attend the Cornerstone annual open house in January for initial introduction. The specific date will be announced on our school website and social media in the first week of January.

  • During the open house, sign up your child for a 'mock classroom' session. These sessions are conducted by our Kindergarten teachers with small groups of children and focus on observing social and emotional development in a classroom setting.

  • After the classroom assessment, and depending on space availability, offers of admission will be sent out via email.

  • To reserve a spot for your child, parents must complete and return the application package along with the required deposit.

Elementary Admissions Process:

  • Phone the school to book a time for your school tour, 604-599-9918.

  • After the school tour, if you are interested in enrolling your child, then you need to make an appointment to return for your child’s assessment. This is not a test; it is simply a casual one on one time with one of our teachers who will review a few academic concepts with your child in Language Arts and Math.

  • At this point, the school will be asking to see a copy of your child’s most recent report card from the school where they are currently in attendance.

  • If we feel that Cornerstone School is a good match for your child and our philosophy, the Administrator will then discuss with you possible plans for moving forward with registration, if there is a spot available.
